Add to those the sounds of dogs barking, clocks ticking, people talking, music playing, a tv in the background, a phone ringing, a baby crying. It\u2019s sometimes difficult to find the ideal quiet place to meditate or practice mindfulness. That\u2019s why you are taught to let all those distractions fade away. It\u2019s not an easy thing to do. It takes practice. Rather than fight it, embrace it. Welcome the sounds and just let them pass through you. Don\u2019t let invite them in to have a stopover, so they can settle in your brain and disrupt what you are trying to do. They are passing through anyway \u2013 here and gone, so let them go on their way. Once you\u2019ve mastered the basics of deep mindfulness meditation, you should challenge yourself. There\u2019s a specific way to do this without undermining your practice. It\u2019s a skill that is taught in the EM course.
