All animals have brains. Ours are more advanced. Yet, we retain the same neural parts that drives reptile behavior – the limbic system. You’ll recognize your version. It’s the place where your emotions originate, including fear, pleasure, anger, hunger, sex, and dominance.
When we decide to begin mindfulness meditation, we have a desire to at least temporarily release us from limbic responses.
It’s important to begin by relaxing and letting strong emotions and any reptilian thoughts slide away.
While lizards are always “in the moment”, its not exactly what we mean by mindfulness!
