Pretzels

No disrespect to the Dali Lama – I just can’t do it. I was born with a certain body shape. I’m not overweight but there is no way I can contort myself into the lotus position.

What’s the point anyway? Even if I could get there, I’d be so uncomfortable and in so much pain it would make it an effort to meditate. And, we all know that “effort” and “mindfulness” don’t go hand-in-hand. The lotus position has a place in the practice of yoga and body-mind health.

The truth is that there is no point to it for mindfulness meditation. You don’t need gongs either. All you need is yourself and a reasonably quiet and comfortable spot – whatever works for you. The rest is just artifice.
